Model Scout Robotics won 1st place in robot Mechanical Design at the FLL North American Open Championship! Our robot “Scoutbot Pi” also took 5th place in the Robot Game with a score of 480 points.
74 top teams from throughout the United States, Canada, and Korea competed in the tournament held May 17-19 at LEGOLAND California.

The Model Scout Robotics team won three awards at the 4th Annual Harmony Robotics League tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 30, 2013. The team earned the Overall Champion award, 1st Place in Technical Judging, and 2nd Place in Robot Game Performance.
The tournament was held by the Harmony School of Innovation in Fort Worth and attended by twenty teams throughout Texas. HSI Fort Worth has also posted pictures and a video of the contest. Many thanks to HSI for hosting an excellent contest!
Model Scout Robotics put in a full day volunteering at the Perot Museum on February 9. For the Discovery Day on Innovation and Engineering event, the team members gave demos of our FIRST LEGO League 2012 Robot Game solution. We also brought several of our other LEGO Mindstorms robots and had a station set up so visitors could drive our robots on the floor using our tablet, Android phone or LEGO Mindstorms controller. One of the robots was a variation of our MoonBots robot so the kid driver could drive watching the robot’s camera output on our laptop.
One of our parents kept a tally on visitors to our station. We demoed to a total of 320 people at the Perot Museum. We got as many kids as we could to run our remote control enabled LEGO Mindstorms robots and gave the kids the opportunity to setup and run our robot missions under our guidance to give them the feel of competing in a FIRST LEGO League robot game. It was a fun day!
Matthew and Anthony ran the team’s solution to the 2012 First Lego League (FLL) robot game puzzle for students at Skaggs Elementary as part of its College Week celebration. They explained how they figured out the puzzles and answered student questions about FLL. They told them how being on a FLL team helps them try out careers in mechanical engineering, computer programming, the sciences and even management. They also can practice skills that are helpful for a variety of careers such as giving presentations, making posters, conducting research, brainstorming solutions and practicing teamwork.

Model Scout Robotics participated at the 2012 North Texas FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Regional Championship tournament at the Hockaday School on January 12, 2013. They won the 1st Place Champion’s Award at the event — the highest award in FIRST LEGO League at the regional level. This award is earned by the team with the strongest performance across all four areas of the competition (robot game, robot design, project and core values).
Our team now has an invitation to attend the FLL North American Open Invitational championship at LEGOLAND California from May 17 to 19th 2013! We are raising funds and we are going!

Today, the LEGO Group announced the launch of a new generation of the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® platform, called LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3. It looks really cool. FIRST LEGO League announced this platform will be allowed in the 2013 Nature’s Fury FIRST LEGO League Robot Game. Learn more about this set use in FLL here.
Model Scout Robotics earned the 1st Place Champion’s Award at one of the six North Texas FIRST LEGO League (FLL) regional qualifiers on December 8, 2012 at Parish Episcopal School in Dallas. The Champion’s Award is earned by the team that does the best in all four areas of the competition (project, robot design, robot game and core values). The team is very happy and honored. Thirty-three teams participated at the regional qualifier.
Model Scout Robotics is one of 54 qualifying teams that advance and compete at the 2012 North Texas Regional FLL Championship at the Hockaday School in Dallas on January 12, 2013.
